In desperation, I asked a friend via Twitter to recommend the very best book I could read if I was interested in losing weight in a way that would be both healthy and sustainable. He recommended Gary Taubes’ “Why We Get Fat.” I read the book in less than two days, and never looked back. I eliminated almost all added sugar, processed carbs, and grains from my diet, and within a month felt like I was in complete control of my weight. I eat meat, seafood, nuts, cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs, green vegetables, and berries. I lost about 88 pounds and have now been maintaining that since July of 2018. I suffered from breathing issues (difficulty getting a full breath) for nearly 40 years. That problem disappeared less than two months after going low-carb and has not recurred.
